Old Milwaukee Train Depot

Driving down River Drive in Great Falls, not only is there the lovely Missouri on one side but many parks and historic buildings on the other.  One stop was the Old Milwaukee train depot which still stands and now houses offices.  The reason I wanted to stop there was for the gardens and water feature.  What a "horrible" place that would be to work - NOT!  I did however want to share some about the building.

This depot was built in 1915 by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad,  the last railroad to enter Montana back in 1907 and ceased operating passenger trains here in the 1960s.  The depot is two-story brick and the tower is 135 feet tall.  The first floor held the waiting rooms, station agent's office and baggage rooms and the railroad offices were located on the second floor.  I am so glad they have kept this historic building in tact.

In honor of our railroad theme, that same day I took this shot of one of the many trestles along the Recreation Road we drove to get to Great Falls.
