Once over Stemple Pass we made quick stop in Lincoln for a potty break and something to drink and to decide which road around that area we would explore. I've not been on most of those back roads and am looking forward to spending more time back there this summer. We decided to head up Copper Creek and found a lovely campground near the dried up Snowbank Lake as a bonus. We drove up the road until we started hitting snow banks on the road and turned around. Here is some of what we saw - this area was haunting but beautiful from the fires that have ravaged the area in 2003 when, as my local source informs me - it burned 35,000 acres. It was so interesting to see the burned trees, the ones that have fallen and all the new growth as well as the stream restoration that is going on. It was also interesting to see the different geological parts of the Just beauty in a different context. I love how the clouds turned out in this first one (HDR) and didn't notice that when I was doing the picture - yes though we did see snowflakes on our way out!
This was THE freakiest bridge ever (suspect it is for ATV and snowmobiles not hikers). I wasn't sure if I'd have some serious vertigo as I headed over it because once over the moving water, as you watched where you put your feet it was pretty disconcerting to say the least as it was open all the way through as you can see. Oh what I do to "get a shot" and honestly these 2 (the one above and below) were not as cool as I thought they might be but oh well.
And this was the one and only wildlife (other than birds) that we saw on our trip which was okay he was very cute and I was glad he came back out to give us a shot!
