Mom and I had been over this road gosh 4 or 5 summers ago but from the other direction and later in the season. It was fun to go back the reverse although we also were reminded how horrid the road was so it was slowwww going 4WD in many spots. It is about 25 miles and I think it took us about 2.5 hours with only one short stop to potty dogs. I was pretty shocked at how many people had dragged their trailers with toys and campers up those roads to Gypsy Lake for the long weekend.
We were rewarded though with some great bird sightings - a couple of falcons, a bald and a golden eagle, a golden eye duck with her babies (in one of the cow pasture dug outs) as well as a great blue heron.
My Mom spotted this golden eagle on a fence post but too late for us to stop before we got to him (to take photos). Of course once I started backing up he took off and really wasn't near enough to get any good shots even with the "mega camera".
Looking west from the top of the mountain the lake down there is Canyon Ferry.
The wildflowers were looking AMAZING!
Potty stop for pups. Louie was doing great until the stooooopid poodles ran him over. From that point on he wouldn't go anywhere but behind my feet so getting photos was not easy. Still it is so good for him to get out of his box again.
Poodles wandering with Auntie Robin.
We were all happy and tired when we got home (and dusty) but it was a super fun day none the less.
