Josie's Turn

December 08, 2019  •  1 Comment

Last week before the storms, Oliver got to join Epic and me out for a hike.  This week it was Josie's turn and it was good Oliver didn't come.  I am sure his naked feet would not have done well on the ice and snow.   MY feet didn't do so well on the icy trails so next time I need to remember the micro spikes for my shoes.  Duly noted!

I only took the phone and was glad just in case I did slip and fall but I needed to lighten the photos a bit as it was pretty gray and gloomy.  Once again though we had the place pretty much to ourselves at least on the path.

Josie went NUTS running when we first got there but I will tell you, by the time we were headed back she was asking to be carried which surprised me.   She'll figure out the pace.   Yes that little green spot on her harness is a bell - much easier to make sure I know where she is that way.  I did a little video shot of her following someone else's tracks.  I think this girl is going to be my nosework prospect.  I'd like to track with her but honestly that is so hard to train and we can start some scent work this winter in the house.  Sterling would be happy he likes that game too!

She also had to do a little bushwhacking.   One of the things I like about getting my dogs out here to walk is that there is a lot of terrain we can try to negotiate.  She's not the most confident in that department so this is good for her to try to figure out.  And she did!

Epic just runs amuck but I have to say he went on leash TWICE because he was thinking "come" was optional!  He does better with a stick in his mouth  but after losing two of the ones I found for him he thought THIS was better.  Yes it IS as long as it looks and I let him have it for a while, till he started to try to "pass me" and was taking me out at the knees.

A photo shoot at the turnaround point.....I was proud of Josie, that was a skinny branch and about 3 feet off the ground.

One last test of Josie's core strength and of her learning to trust that I won't let her crash and burn.  Super skinny but she did it and 4 1/2 feet up no less.  Good girlie.

It is winter in Montana, the only green we have are the pine trees otherwise photos are brown or white or both!
